Realising the Potential of Place

Nicola Richards MP and the APPG for Skills & Employment discuss skills mapping for local growth with UCL

“To ensure an inclusive economic recovery, which benefits small businesses and as many people as possible, it is vital that we understand the opportunities for growth in our local economies. However, in order to make the most of the labour market intelligence that is available, close collaboration between employers, colleges, local government and LEPs will be required.”

Nicola Richards MP

The post-COVID-19 economic recovery will require policymakers to develop intelligent solutions to boost productivity and support inclusive economic growth.

Scheduled before the full ramifications of the pandemic became apparent, this roundtable explored emerging methodologies for undertsanding the potential capacity of industrial clusters and their underlying skills bases. The discussion focused on how local partners could work together to interpret and aggregate skills needs to support local employers and economic development.

A presentation was provided from UCL's Dr Neave O'Clery. Group members, Combined Authority Skills Leads, and Whitehall officials participated in the discussion.
