Policy Connects draws on its network to respond to Defra’s consultation on 'Environmental Principles and Governance after EU Exit'

30th October 2018

Recognising the opportunity opened by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs consultation on Environmental Principles and Governance after EU Exit, Policy Connect consulted  members of the All-Party Parliamentary Sustainable Resource Forum (APSRG); the Sustainable Resource Forum (SRF); the All-Party Parliamentary Climate Change Group (APPCCG) and the Westminster Sustainable Business Forum (WSBF) in order to put together a comprehensive response that would represent the views of the climate, construction, energy and waste sectors.

The process, which included holding a round table in Westminster with all of the consulted organisations, offered a unique opportunity to listen to strong and often diverging points of view from trade and industry bodies, chartered institutions and NGOs, and gave Policy Connect the chance to draw on the strength of its broad network to make the best out of the opportunity to influence the environmental policy in the UK.

Together with the submission to the consultation, Policy Connect also sent a letter to the Secretary of State Michel Gove which, signed by Barry Sheerman MP, Lord Inglewood and Lord Redesdale, highlighted the importance of strengthening policies and governance framework for the betterment of the environment.

* Due to the importance of environmental protection to our field, strong views were expressed in the consultation and debates we held with the organisations. It is therefore important to highlight that this response is not necessarily representative of the views of each and all of the organisations consulted.
