Enough is enough: cutting down on food waste

1 - 2.30 pm

The APPG on Sustainable Resources and the APPG on Food Waste will be holding an event in Parliament to discuss how to prevent food waste in England, a key aspect of Defra's Resource and Waste Strategy.

In December 2018 the Department for Food, Environment and Rural Affairs Published its much anticipated Resource and Waste Strategy, a key document for the waste & resources sector and, crucially, the first comprehensive update to England’s waste system in more than a decade.

In it, the government outlined ambitious plans aimed at reducing  single-use plastics, tackle the problem of plastic packaging and put an end to “the economic, environmental and moral scandal that is food waste”, in the words of Secretary of State Michael Gove.

It is with a focus on the latter that the All-Party Parliamentary Groups on Sustainable Resources and Food Waste have joined forces to host an event aimed at discussing how to cut down on food waste, as stated in Chapter 5 of the Strategy. Join us* on June 11 to hear from Defra’s Food waste champion Bill Elliot and experts from across businesses, industry, charities and Government.
