APPCOG Co-chair

Barry Sheerman is the Labour (Co-op) Member of Parliament for Huddersfield, having held the seat since 1979, and is Co-chair of the APPCOG.

Barry has been a long standing member of the APPCOG, having been one of the founding members of Policy Connect, who run the APPCOG, 20 years ago.

In 2004, one of his constituents, Stacey Rodgers, lost her son Dominic to CO posioning and as a result she set up the Dominic Rodgers Trust. Since then, Barry has worked closely with the Trust and the APPCOG to help raise awareness, push for greater Parliamentary action and bring together Parliament, business, gas experts and many others to tackle this important issue.

First elected in 1979, Barry has had a long and successful Parliamentary career. He is the former Chair of the Education and Skill Select Committee, as well as the Chair of the Children, Schools and Families Select Committee. He is also currently the Chairman of the Parliamentary Advisory Council on Transport Safety, Urban Mines, and Policy Connect.

Outside Parliament, he is a Governor of the LSE, Chairman of the National Educational Research & Development Trust, and Director and Trustee of the National Children's Centre.
