Barry had been the Labour (Co-op) Member of Parliament for Huddersfield since 1979. A former Select Committee chair, Barry a long-standing campaigner for manufacturing in the UK. His is also Chair of the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Industrial Sustainability.
