Extended Producer Responsibility for Packaging
The APSRG will be holding an online roundtable event on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for Packaging.
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for packaging aims to incentivise producers to design packaging that is easy to be recycled or reused, and ensure that they pay the full net cost of managing this packaging when it becomes waste. The roundtable will be chaired by Lord Teverson, Officer of the APSRG and will hear from representatives of industry, academia and the third sector who will share their views related to EPR for packaging. The Government is currently consulting on the introduction of Extended Producer Responsibility for Packaging across the four nations of the UK.
The roundtable will explore some of the following themes:
- What are different stakeholders’ views related to the proposals set out in the consultation document?
- How do the consultation’s proposals support the principles of the circular economy?
- How will the proposals set out in the current EPR consultation work together with the proposals outlined in the recently launched consultations on deposit return schemes consistency in recycling collections and the Waste Prevention Action Programme?
