Essay collection: 'Building Better - Recommendations for a more sustainable UK construction sector'

The Westminster Sustainable Business Forum (WSBF) has compiled a collection of expert essays on the topic of ‘sustainable construction’ contributed to by industry, policy-makers, and specialists from academia.

About the Inquiry

The publication, chaired by former Parliamentary Under Secretary of State and Shadow Minister for Communities and Local Government Bob Neill MP, expands out to cover a range of construction-related topics, relevant within the recent ‘Construction 2025’ industrial strategy, to include, inter alia, skills, planning, innovation, and the successful export of products and services worldwide. Contributors from UK Trade & Investment, BRE, Carillion, the Construction Industry Training Board, Willmott Dixon Energy Services Limited, and the School of Construction Management & Engineering at the University of Reading have provided comment on one of these themes as well as a recommendation to industry and/or Government on how current practices and policy-making in these areas can be improved.

Claudia Jaksch, Manager of the Westminster Sustainable Business Forum, said:

"This collection of expert essays highlights particular low-carbon challenges for the built environment across the spectrum of planning, innovation, employment, skills, energy efficiency, and exports of products and services. Contributors and their organisations have been given the chance to help shape the UK policy agenda by submitting an opinion piece with a specific recommendation for industry, legislators, and policy-makers."
