Water companies issue drought alert

It could be a long summer for water companies as drought conditions beckon.

After the driest winter for 20 years, water companies have issued warnings about possible drought conditions and water shortages this summer. A relatively dry autumn in 2016 preceded the parched winter, and there has been little in the way of 'April showers' to allay farmers and water companies concerns.  

Parts of the South of England are at particular risk of the gardeners' nightmare proposition: hosepipe bans. Affinity Water were quick allay fears by saying that they are: "monitoring the situation closely with clear plans in place". With meteorologists saying that there looks to be little precipitation on the radar for now, we could all be doing a rain dance before long.
