What are the next steps for heat in the next government? Carbon Connect’s Mitya Pearson to present policy options at UtilityWeek Live.

UtilityWeek Live will be opening its doors on 23rd May. With 7 different theatres, plus Edie.Live sited at the same venue, the conference promises to draw thousands of key utility experts and professionals.

This year’s Network Theatre is home to energy supply networks. Carbon Connect’s Manager, Mitya Pearson, who is leading on its key three-piece research project Future Gas, has been invited to speak on a panel discussing the future of gas networks – a hot topic in light of governmental pledges to decarbonise by 2020 and 2030, the Paris agreement and the upcoming industrial strategy.

Carbon Connect has been researching this very subject, with its first report currently being finished up (we’re preparing to launch it in the new government term). Mitya will be discussing his research, which has included a mix of Parliamentary research, statistics and industry feedback, to reach a consensus of evidence-based policy recommendations.

Carbon Connect is the independent, cross-party forum that seeks to inform and guide a low carbon transformation underpinned by sustainable energy.

This case study led session will explore the latest innovations and developments in the opening of the gas network to sustainable sources.  What are the challenges and opportunities for networks and industry and what are the considerations for adaptation, capacity, future flexibility and storage?

The panel will be chaired by Tony Glover, Director of Policy and Gas at the Energy Network Association. Alongside Mitya there will be Adam Madget (Northern Gas Network), Andy Lewis (National Grid), Mark Wheeldon (SGN), David Salisbury (National Grid), and Navdeep Singh Kahlon (Cadent).

You can catch the panel discussion at 15.45pm on Tuesday 23rd May in the Network Theatre. There will be a chance to grill the experts with a question and answer session, and you can catch up with us on @CarbonConnectUK, @Policy_Connect and #UWL17.
