Celebrating the future of manufacturing: a parliamentary reception with the APPG on Manufacturing and MakeUK
This week, we were delighted to host a parliamentary reception with the All-Party Parliamentary Manufacturing Group and MakeUK.
Attendees were welcomed by Lord Robin Teverson and Claudia Jaksch, Policy Connect.
Speaking at the event were:
- Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (and former Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy) the Rt Hon Greg Clark MP;
- Denis Amaoko-Brown and Josephine Ready, two apprentices in engineering and business respectively;
- Stephen Phipson, CEO of MakeUK; and
- Barry Sheerman MP, Chair of Policy Connect.
The reception brought together parliamentarians with leaders from the manufacturing and engineering sectors, trade body representatives and apprentices representing the sector's future talent.
Earlier this month, MakeUK held National Manufacturing Day to show the importance of the sector and encourage young people to consider a career in manufacturing by demonstrating the wide range of rewarding jobs available. Manufacturing companies opened their doors and invited in their local communities, to see what working in manufacturing is really like.
