Construction's Digital Future

Construction's Digital Future

10th September 2019
12.45-15.00

The Westminster Sustainable Business Forum will host a roundtable discussion and working lunch in the House of Commons to explore why the construction industry lags behind other sectors in embracing technology and how digital solutions can drive up standards.  This meeting will be co-chaired by shadow Housing Minister Alex Cunningham MP and Housing, Communities and Local Government committee member Teresa Pearce MP.

With housing and built environment projects taking an increasingly dominant role in domestic politics, this timely event will bring together a diverse group of designers, housebuilders, civil servants and other industry leaders.  It will identify why the construction industry has been slow to adopt digital technologies and explore the role that Building Information Modelling (BIM) and cloud-based solutions can play in creating homes and communities that are fit for the future.  Topics for conversation include:

  • Why has the construction industry been slow to adopt process and technology innovations?
  • How can Building Information Modelling be standardised across the industry and what is 5D BIM?
  • How can we encourage the move away from paper and towards digital and cloud based project management tools with real-time information sharing?
  • What regulations are in place to encourage certification in off-site construction?
  • How will innovations such as Internet of Things, VR design, and wearable technology influence the construction industry of tomorrow?

The lunch is being kindly sponsored by the British Board of Agrément and is invitation only. Please register your interest in attending by contacting WSBF manager, Rob Allen.
