All-Party Parliamentary Carbon Monoxide Group

Health & Accessibility

The All-Party Parliamentary Carbon Monoxide Group (APPCOG) is the leading forum for Parliamentarians, civil servants and energy industry representatives to work together to discuss ways of tackling carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning, to improve government policy on carbon monoxide safety, and to raise public awareness of the threat posed by deadly CO gas.

Through its busy programme of events and research, the Group seeks to push the vital issue of carbon monoxide safety up the political agenda. In doing so, the Group works closely with universities, charities and energy industry companies committed to tackling CO poisoning.

Until mid-2012, the Group was entitled the All-Party Parliamentary Gas Safety Group. The Group's name was changed to reflect an important, but often misunderstood, aspect of the ongoing fight against CO poisoning: that carbon monoxide can be produced by a wide variety of different sources, not solely by gas appliances. CO is produced by the incomplete burning of various fuels, including coal, wood, charcoal, oil and kerosene, as well as propane and natural gas. The APPCOG's 2012 name change reflects the Group's determination to eradicate CO poisoning from any and every potential source.

The APPCOG is keen to hear from and work with any organisation or individual committed to helping save lives by improving CO safety in the UK. Do get in touch.
