This workshop follows the recommendation in our Smarter Homes for Independent Living report for the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy to make independent living technology part of its forthcoming innovation missions programme.

In a paper to accompany the recommendation, Policy Manager for Assistive Technology Clive Gilbert outlined a proposal for an Independent Living Technology Mission that would draw different policy areas such as regulation, education and skills, and research and development funding. The mission would aim to make the UK a better place to create, buy and sell independent living technology – the briefing describes the aim of the mission more precisely.

Participants will be asked to help refine the scope of the mission.
