'Green' Brexit: One Year Countdown

'Green' Brexit: One Year Countdown

20th March 2018
9 - 11am

A year after the UK Government triggered Article 50 – and with one year to go until the UK formally leaves the EU – now is an opportune moment to reflect upon the achievements and failures of the past 12 months, and to renew our ambitions towards working to achieve a 'green' Brexit.

A joint event by the APPGs on Climate Change and Sustainable Resource Forum

Chaired by: Lord Inglewood, former Minister, MEP and Chief Whip

Rebecca Pow MP: Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the Ministers in Defra

Stephen Gethins MP: SNP Foreign Affairs and Europe Spokesperson

Paul McNamee: Head of Politics, Green Alliance

Prof. Charlotte Burns: University of Sheffield & lead researcher on Brexit and Environment

Key questions for discussion at this event include:

  • What progress has been achieved in ensuring that Brexit poses no threat to the maintainenance and improvement of the UK’s environmental protections and standards?
  • What more is there that the UK Government and Parliament must do to achieve a green Brexit in the little time that remains until we leave the EU?
  • As we move towards the later stages of the Brexit process, both in negotiations with the EU and with legislation in Parliament, what can the sustainability community, policymakers and Parliamentarians do to secure a sustainable Brexit?
