FETL Winter Symposium 2019

FETL Winter Symposium 2019

11th December 2019
12:00-14:30

Dame Ruth Silver, president of Further Education Trust for Leadership (FETL), invites you to join her and leaders from the Further Education and Skills sector in Parliament for the FETL Winter Symposium on “Setting up the Future” – Further Education beyond 2020. The event will be held in Parliament on December 11th, 12.00-14.30.

Further funding of £400 million for FE was announced in the Autumn statement, welcome news for a sector that suffers consistently from funding cuts and constraints. However, with Westminster in turmoil and a general election underway, what might the next five to ten years have in store for FE?

We plan to bring together sector leaders, academics and practitioners to think about this question and to discuss how we can set out an ambitious, long-term vision for the future of further education. Panel speakers will include Baroness Wolf of Dulwich, who was part of the Augar Review into Post-18 Education and Funding; James Kirkup, the Director of the Social Market Foundation; Lesley Davies OBE, principal and CEO of the Trafford College Group; and Kirstie Donnelly MBE, Group Managing Director at the City & Guilds Group. The event will be chaired by Stephen Exley, Further Education Editor at Tes.

The most recent FETL symposium took place in July in the House of Commons, hosted by Lord Holmes of Richmond. The event explored the role of technology in FE and its potential to transform every aspect of teaching, learning and the education environment. A detailed summary of the event including photos can be found on FETL’s website.

Prior to this, the FETL Spring Symposium took place on May 23rd at Bristol College’s Advanced Engineering Centre. It developed the themes of collaboration and local systems that were explored in Professor Ewart Keep’s report for FETL, 'Scripting the Future'.

A networking lunch from 12:00 will provide attendees with an opportunity to enjoy drinks and canapés together with sector leaders, employers and other partners with an interest in the success of the FE sector. Attendees must have an invitation to attend this event, for further information please contact sarah.selley@policyconnect.org.uk.

We look forward to seeing you in December.
