Enabling Play: Assistive Technology and Learning Through Play

3pm-5pm

Assistive Technology (AT) can unlock the world of play for disabled children. And play allows children to learn AT skills that can be adapted to new uses as they grow up. AT facilitated play can even allow parents, play professionals, and teachers to gain insight into a child’s development.

This event by the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Assistive Technology (APPGAT) celebrates this triple enablement: AT for play, play for AT and AT for play insight. By bringing together experts and policymakers to discuss the latest developments in the sector, this high-profile panel discussion will address the next steps for helping children gain access to play opportunities. The event will bring AT and play into discussions around childcare, early years, school education, and NHS funded support. Attendees will also have the opportunity to explore the latest examples of AT toys and games. This event forms part of the APPGATs programme of parliamentary engagement and a written record of the event will be used to brief parliamentarians and other policymakers.
