Following the publication of the Government’s Anti-Microbial (AMR) Strategy, this briefing will hear from Professor Dame Sally Davies on the new AMR Strategy.

Before antibiotics, at least 43% of people died of infections and life expectancy was 20 years lower than today. Today, every year in the UK 2,000 people die due to drug resistant infections. Dame Sally Davies, the Chief Medical Officer said during the Health and Social Care Committee’s inquiry on AMR that ‘we would lose modern medicine’, because treatment meant an increased risk of resistant infection.
