Response to Department for Education consultation on professional development and qualifications for teachers

The Department for Education held a consultation on professional development for teachers: 'Strengthening Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and Improving Career Progression for Teachers'. The consultation asked for responded to proposals around CPD for Newly Qualified Teachers, professional development qualifications for more experienced teachers, and provision of CPD for teachers more generally.

The APPGAT used the findings its parliamentary events, including our symposium on AT and SkillsEarly Years and Play, our Roundtable on Literacy for assistive technology users, and drew on written input from many our associate member organisations to produce a group response. The government is now considering the consultation responses it has received and will publish its own response and statement of intention in this area. The APPGAT will continue to seek opportunities to engage with these issues during this period, and we will produce a public comment when the government publishes its response.
