Evidence Submission to the Education Select Committee Inquiry on SEND

Evidence Submission to the Education Select Committee Inquiry on SEND

The Education Select Committee has opened an inquiry into the post-2014 reforms to support for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Policy Connect drew on the input of associate members of the APPGAT, and the findings of APPGAT parliamentary events to produce and evidence submission to the committee. In particular, the APPGAT panel event on assistive technology in schools produced ideas and perspectives that fed into this submission. The submission argued that the SEND reforms have not been successful in allowing schools to take full advantage of assistive technology. Schools require further advice and guidance, the model of procurement for assistive technology should be overhauled, and exams and assessment should be designed from the outset to work with assistive technology.
