Assistive Technology and The Industrial Strategy

Assistive Technology and The Industrial Strategy

26th March 2018
4:15pm-6pm

The Government's Industrial Strategy, published late last year, is an ambitious plan to support UK industry to “boost the economy, build on the country’s strengths and embrace the opportunities of technological change”. As part of the Strategy, Government has set out Grand Challenges including - Artificial Intelligence, Mobility, and the Ageing Society - and will support industry to meet these challenges with research grants, regulatory policy and efforts to build consumer trust in new technologies.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Assistive Technology will hold a symposium on the Industrial Strategy. We will look at how the Strategy can support innovation in assistive technology (AT) and how the AT sector can further contribute to our economy and society. The UK AT sector is recognised as world leading, both in hardware manufacturing and software development, and is at the forefront of many of the innovations that will help meet the Government's Grand Challenges. The event will bring together experts, industry leaders, civil servants and Parliamentarians to explore how the Industrial Strategy can support innovation in assistive technology to further contribute to our economy and society.

The panel will be chaired by Lord Holmes, co-chair of the APPG for Assistive Technology and Chair of the Global Disability Innovation Hub.
