In conversation with the Institute for Apprenticeships

6th February 2018

On Wednesday 10th of January, the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Skills and Employment welcomed the new Chief Executive of the Institute for Apprenticeships (IFA) Sir Gerry Berragan.

In April 2017, the IFA was set up to take an impartial view of apprenticeship standards and to regulate the quality of apprenticeships. They have the powers to use expertise to develop, approve and assess education and training programmes.

Apprenticeship starts has fallen in the six months from May 2017 compared to the same period the previous year. Yet the Government’s target is to achieve 3 million apprenticeships by 2020. The IFA will play a key role in helping to expand the number of high quality apprenitcieships.

A large audience heard Sir Gerry speak on the Institute’s purpose and upcoming priorities.
