WSBF Summer Dinner – Skills for the low carbon economy
14 July 2010
Chair:
Barry Sheerman MP
Speakers:
Simon Perryman - Director of Employer Engagement, UK Commission for Employment and Skills
Gearoid Lane - Managing Director of Communities and New Energy, British Gas
Tim Balcon - Chief Executive, Energy and Utility Skills
Lord Taylor of Holbeach - Government Spokesperson in the Lords for the Cabinet Office, Energy and Climate Change and Work and Pensions
Senior business leaders, parliamentarians and other stakeholders attended the WSBF annual summer dinner to constructively debate how to create the skills for a low carbon economy in the UK. Increased demand for energy, particularly sustainable sources of energy, as well as increased demand to tackle environmental degradation and pollution will have a significant impact on the labour market. There will be both new industries created, as well as a need to ‘green’ existing industries which will require further green skills across all educational levels.
