Offshore Renewable Energy Technology and Innovation Centre announced
The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills has launched a competition to form an Offshore Renewable Energy Technology and Innovation Centre.
26 May 2011
The Secretary of State for the Department for Business Innovation and Skills has announced the start of a competition to form an Offshore Renewable Energy Technology and Innovation Center (TIC), with a focus on technologies for offshore wind, wave and tidal power. The Government has committed £200 million over the next four years to the development of at least six of these centers, which will allow businesses to access equipment and expertise with the aim of assisting the commercialisation of emerging technologies. The scheme is designed to build on what the Secretary of State, The Rt. Hon Vince Cable called Britain’s reputation as a world leader in offshore engineering. Speaking about the new initiative Vince Cable said, “In creating an Offshore Renewable Energy Technology and Innovation Centre we are taking the next step to transforming the UK into a low carbon economy. There is a clear opportunity for the Government to support the UK’s offshore industry and this centre will be of great benefit to the sector and the economy.”
