New scheme to make green heaters affordable
The Department of Energy and Climate Change has announced £15 million of funding to be available for households to install green heaters.
21 July 2011
The Department of Energy and Climate Change has announced the launch of a new scheme enabling households to receive up to £1,250 in Government funding to help towards the cost of installing renewable heating systems, including biomass boilers, air and ground source heat pumps and solar thermal panels. The scheme is set to open for applications from 1st August this year, with £15 million pledged for up to 25,000 instillations and a review expected after the fist £10 million. The scheme will initially focus on households not heated by gas mains, that currently have to rely on higher carbon forms of heating. Speaking about the new scheme, Energy Minister Greg Barker MP said, “Getting money off an eco heater will not just cut carbon emissions, it will also help create a market in developing, selling and installing kit like solar thermal panels or heat pumps.” Participants in the scheme will be asked to gather detailed feedback on their experience to help the Government better understand renewable heat technologies and provide data on manufacturers, installers and the performance of their products.
