Extending our thanks to Baroness Sharp on her retirement

Extending our thanks to Baroness Sharp on her retirement

2nd August 2016

As Parliament goes into Summer recess, the Skills and Education team here at Policy Connect now has the opportunity to devote an article to the work of Baroness Sharp as she starts recess for the last time.

Last week, Baroness Sharp gave her final speech in the Lords before her retirement.

For the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Skills & Employment, Skills Commission and Higher Education Commission, the Baroness has long been an avid supporter of our work. As well as being Vice-Chair of the APGSE and member of the HEC and SC, Baroness Sharp was also the Liberal Democrats’ education spokesperson in the Lords from 2000 to 2010. With a decade in this spokesperson role, as well her role as president of the Association of Colleges, Margaret provided a long-standing pool of knowledge and leadership from which the APGSE, Skills Commission and HEC has massively benefitted.
We have worked with Margaret on research including Guide to the Skills System, From Bricks to Clicks and Still in Tune? (plus much more) and she has been an instrumental part in the development and impact of Policy Connect's skills and education research and policy proposals - a champion for education in the House of Lords.
We wish Baroness Sharp all the best as she retires but feel sure that she will always be abreast of the latest education news in her retirement, and wish to extend our thanks for her work with us over the past few years.
