Vince Cable writes to Skills Funding Agency

Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Vince Cable, has written to head of the Skills Funding Agency, Geoff Russell, about the Coalition Government's plans for skills in the coming year. The Government's key priorities include:
Cable also reaffirmed the Government's commitment to skills stating: "The Government recognises that skills are an essential part of creating an advanced and highly competitive economy, and our ambition is to be amongst the best countries in the world for the quality of skills supporting the economy, and for the participation in lifelong learning."

- Support the progression and strengthen the supply of technician level skills, particularly Level 3 apprenticeships.
- Greater partnership with SSCs to promote employer engagement.
- Reduce youth unemployment.
- Provide independent careers guidance.
- Develop Lifelong Learning Accounts.
- Increase participation in adult and community learning.
- Invest in economically critical sectors.
- Re focus Train to Gain money into Apprenticeships and FE.
- Create efficiency savings.
