Ucas to review A-level biased admissions process

Ucas, the university admissions body, is to review its application system- which currently compares qualifications to A-levels through a point score- in order to ensure it reflects the broadening range of qualifications available to young people.

Ucas is conducting the review to ensure that the system encompasses all qualifications available and weights different qualifications according to their relevance to the university course. Ucas also reports that an increasing number of university applicants have alternative qualifications to A-levels.

David Willetts, Minister for Universities and Skills said: "It is important to ensure that we value both academic and vocational qualifications, provided they are rigorous."
