New entitlement to request time to train
Legislation introduced in the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act (2009) whihc came into effect this week gives employees the right to request time for training.
The new law applies to all businesses with over 250 employees, and will be extended to all employees in April 2011 to allow smaller firms a year to prepare. Employees will be able to request time to undertake training which will imporve their business performance, however, employers do have the right to refuse a request if they have a good business case.
Skills Mininster, Kevin Brennan MP commented: "We need to empower people to speak about training opportunities and the benefits they can bring to a business' success."
