Hayes speaks at ALP conference
John Hayes, Minister for Further Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning, spoke at the Association of Learning Provider's (ALP) annual summer conference on Wednesday 14th July.
Hayes spoke of: the Government's commitment to build a lifelong learning system; plans to introduce local enterprise partnerships in cooperation with colleges and training providers; and apprenticeships as the central pillar of the Coalition's vocational learning programme. Hayes also called on the members of the ALP to identify and align their provision to the skills needs associated with local economic priorities. The Minister also announced that the Key Skills part of the apprenticeship framework would be extended until March 2011, to give providers more time to prepare for the introduction of Functional Skills. He also welcomed the new labelling system proposed by Graham Hoyle, Chief Executive of the ALP, which he said would empower learners through improved access to information.
