Education and Skills in the Budget
On Wednesday 24th March the Chancellor, Alistair Darling MP, gave his budget statement. Below is a summary of the key education and skills announcements.
- £2.5 billion package to help small businesses invest in key skills
- Extension of the job or training place guarantee for all 18-24 yr olds out of work for 6 months until March 2012
- Creation of a Green Investment Bank to focus on green transport and sustainable energy industries
- £35 million university enterprise capital fund to provide support for university innovation and commercialisation of research projects
- £270 million University Modernisation Fund in 2010-11 to create 20,000 new places- predominantly in STEM subjects
