Consultation launched on skills conditionality for benefits
The Department for Work and Pensions has launched a consultation on its proposals for skills-conditional benefit payments. Under the new proposals, benefit claimants could be instructed to take a training course to help improve their employability. If they refuse to participate they could have their benefits stopped.
Skills Minister John Hayes said: “This is an important change, and one which we hope will result in improved participation and completion rates in skills training programmes to get more people into jobs.”
The consultation closes on 3rd February.
