LAUNCH: Carbon Monoxide Poisoning: Saving Lives, Advancing Treatment

LAUNCH: Carbon Monoxide Poisoning: Saving Lives, Advancing Treatment

11th October 2017

On Wednesday 11th October the All-Party Parliamentary Carbon Monoxide Group and Policy Connect will launch a report which identifies that symptoms of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning are often being misdiagnosed. This is particularly worrying in pregnancy as CO poisoning transfers to the foetus.

Carbon Monoxide (CO) is a silent killer with accidental poisoning often going undetected.  Key medical and CO experts have come together to develop a report that recommends important healthcare reforms in order for the effects of poisoning to be better recognised and treated. Healthcare professionals are likely to be the first person to meet someone feeling unwell due to CO exposure, and are therefore best placed to intervene.

The launch will cover a discussion (with Q&A) of three themes with healthcare experts:

  • The effect of CO on the body and brain
  • Problems around diagnosis
  • Problems with knowing how to treat CO poisoning
