Carbon Connect has an active research programme focusing on the role of government policy in supporting the development and commercialisation of low carbon innovation in the UK.

Current Research

Over the next 6 months Carbon Connect will be undertaking a research inquiry to examine how private sector organisations can develop sustainable business strategies that reduce GHG emissions and stimulate investment in renewable technologies. This will seek to provide a clear roadmap of the regulation and investment opportunities facing private sector organisations in the transition to a low-carbon economy, identifying cutting-edge approaches to sustainable energy management.

This inquiry is to be Chaired by Lord Teverson, Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Energy and Climate Change. A final report will be published and launched in Parliament in March 2011. The report will highlight existing examples of best-practice and innovation, as well as making specific recommendations to government as to how policy might be improved.

Between October and November 2010 we will be holding three inquiry sessions in Parliament, at which individuals and organisations will be invited to formally submit evidence. The dates and policy focus of these three inquiry sessions will be as follows:

Inquiry Session 1 - Regulation

Date: Wednesday 6th October, Portcullis House

Focus: Can the CRC and existing energy efficiency regulation help drive private sector organisations to do business "better"?

Inquiry Session 2 - Drivers

Date: Wednesday 13th October, Portcullis House

Focus: How can business of all shapes and sizes unlock the commercial value of FiTs, secure upfront capital and overcome implementation hurdles?

Inquiry Session 3 - Strategic Partnerships

Date: Wednesday 3rd November, Portcullis House

Focus: What is the potential for joint-working with Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) to install energy efficiency upgrades and develop renewable generation projects?
