In a speech focusing on the Green Economy, the Deputy Prime Minister, Rt Hon Nick Clegg MP, announced further details on the design of the highly anticipated Green Investment bank. Mr Clegg identified waste as a 'possible early priority' for the development bank and revealed that it would be able to start investing in projects from April 2012. Initially the bank shall have £3 billion to invest until 2015, however shall not be able to borrow money itself before that date and only once the government's target for debt reduction has been met.
