The media profile of sustainable resources issues has risen significantly in the past year, with recycling and energy-from-waste receiving widespread coverage across the national media. However, there are consistent concerns over the quality of reporting on specific issues, with the coverage of the downturn in global recycling markets at the turn of the year receiving much attention from within, and without, the sector.
This parliamentary event brought together media professionals, policy-makers and members to engage on this crucial issue and assess how to take advantage of the increased profile and ensure a positive, coherent message is put across to as wide an audience as possible. In addition to facilitating first-hand debate, the event also highlighted strategies for effective engagement and utilisation of the media for those engaged in sustainable resource management.
