Scottish Government to Consult on Single Use Bags
Legislation for Plastic bags to be considered
22 August 2011
The Scottish Government has announced plans to consult on the options available to reduce the amount of plastic bag use. The move was triggered by recent figures published by WRAP, which showed a rise in the use of plastic bags, a finding which goes against the previous trend of an increace in the recycling of single use carrier bags. The Scottish Government intends to tackle the revers in the trend 'head on', with Environment Scretary Richard Lochhead saying: 'Plastic bags are a scourge on the environment and a blight on our streets, our countryside and our seas - that's why we are so determined to drastically cut back on thier use'.
