Opposition Day Debate on Environmental Protection and Green Growth

Government's progress on the Green Agenda Debated

31 October 2011

Mary Creagh MP, Shadow Secretary of State for the Environment, challenged the Government during an opposition day debate in the House of Commons on their commitment to the environment. She highlighted waste as part of Labour's three part plan for the environment, emphasising the role of higher waste targets to drive private sector job creation, alongside infrastructure for flood defences and mandatory CRC reporting. Mrs Creagh also referred to the Government's recent waste review as a 'missed opportunity' and stated that, compared to the devolved administrations, the UK has the lowest recycling targets and that due to this, if the develoved administration's targets are met, Engalnd will only have to recyclie 47.6% of its waste to avoid an EU infraction.
