Terms of reference and call for evidence published
2 August 2010Defra has published the terms of reference and call for evidence for a review of the Government's waste policies. The Environment Secretary, Rt Hon Caroline Spelman MP, noted that Defra wanted a waide range of opinions, from businesses, households and communities and local authorities to contribute to the review.
The review will focus on how to create policies that will reflect the need to reduce waste, and how to increase reuse and recucling, as well as taking into account how these policies affect local communities, households and businesses.
The review will also look at how to encourage and incentivise communities to participate more in recycling and waste management schemes, as well as working with local councils to increase the frequency and quality of rubbish collections.
The deadline for inputting views in the Call for Evidence is 7 October 2010. The preliminary results from the Review will also be published in Spring 2011.
