Sue Hayman MP has been appointed Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs following the resignation of Rachael Maskell MP last week.
She was elected Labour MP for Workington in 2015. In her short time as a Member of Parliament, Ms Hayman has not debated any waste or recycling policy. However, in her former role as shadow coastal communities minister she has called for more ‘waste facility areas’ to keep food waste secure from gulls, and last month argued that local authority collection costs in rural areas were almost ‘double’ of those in towns and cities.
Her appointment follows the resignation of Rachael Maskell MP, who stepped down from the Labour front bench following her decision to vote against the Article 50 bill, defying the party's three-line whip.
