Government scrap pay-as-you-throw
Local incentive schemes to be encouraged
7 June 2010
The Secretaries of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs; and Communities and Local Government, Rt Hon Caroline Spelman MP and Rt Hon Eric Pickles MP, have announced that the Government will scrap the previous Government’s plans to allow councils to implement pay-as-you-throw schemes. Recycling incentive schemes, following the example of RecycleBank, will instead be encouraged. The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead has this week expanded the RecycleBank scheme (trialed since last year) to more than 60,000 households in the Borough.
