DEFRA Announces Cuts to Arm's Length Bodies

Up to 30 organisations affected

26 July 2010

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has announced reforms to several of its arm's length bodies. The Environment Secretary, Rt Hon Caroline Spelman MP, announced that DEFRA would be withdrawing funding from the Sustainable Development Commission (SDC) as well as abolishing the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution.

Ms Spelamn emphasised that DEFRA will continue to liaise with the SDC, but will also look to the Environmental Audit committee to provide further assistance and 'democratic scrutiny' of the government's work in the sustainable development sector.
