Carrier bag usage falls for fourth year in a row
41% drop in usage since 2006

A recent report by WRAP and the British Retail Consortium has suggested that consumers, ave almost halved the number of carrier bags used since 2006. In 2006 (when the figures were first published), 10.9bn bags were used by consumers and retailers, down by 4.5bn to 6.5bn per year in 2009/2010 - 39,700 tonnes per year. These reductions have taken place during a 6.3% period of sales growth by supermarkets.
