Government announces new fund for weekly waste collections
£250m found from DCLG efficiency savings

Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government has announced a £250million fund to encourage councils to keep of revert to weekly collections of thier waste. The money has been sourced from within the DCLG budget and shall be funded entirely from that department. The Weekly Collections Support Scheme will be used as an incentive to encourage councils to retain weekly colelction services for at least 5 years, and will be spent on improving collection services. The new fund is also earmarked to assist waste technologies and ensure that councils can make better procurement contacts.
