EC Publishes Energy Recovery Clarification
Guidelines define distinctions between waste hierarchy
04 July 2011
Recent guidelines from the European Commission aim to help authorities in member states define end of life options in relation to the waste management hierarchy. The 'R1 Formula' allows for the working out of the efficiency of an energy recovery facility. The facilities which meet of exceed the efficiency thresholds can class themeselves as energy recovery rather than waste disposal in accordance with the waste hierarchy, now enshrined in member state's legislation.
