Defra publishes new voluntary deal for business waste
Plans to encourage SME recycling taken forward
24 October 2011
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has announced a new voluntary responsibility deal for Local Authorities to sign up to, which intends to help overcome issues facing small businesses when trying to access waste and recycling services. 'The Business Waste and recycling Services Commitment' has been produced by Defra, the Federation of Small Businesses, the Local Government Association and WRAP. The agreement is delivered as part of a range of commitments to assist SME recycling made by the Government in its fundamental review of waste policies earlier in the year. Lord Taylor of Holbeach, Defra minister for waste said, 'For the first time we've got solid agreement between councils and businesses to make it easier and more cost effective for smaller firms to recycle more and improve their resource efficiency.'
