Anaerobic digestion has great potential, both to provide a source of renewable energy and a sustainable waste management solution. The potential of biogas from anaerobic digestion to provide renewable energy has been extolled in recent high profile reports from National Grid and the Conservative party and has been highlighted in the Government’s Heat and Energy Saving Strategy consultation, while Defra has published its strategy for developing the technology and established a Task Group to develop an implementation plan.
This event enabled parliamentarians, policy-makers and members to critically engage with this issue and the Task Group members. Discussion focused on deployability and securing finance for the technology, as well as its position within wider renewable energy and waste management goals.
