Chancellor announces National Infrastructure Plan
£5 billion earmarked for infrastructure

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rt Hon George Osborne MP, has delivered his Autumn Statement to the House of Commons. The Statement was divided int0 three key themes: protecting the economy, building a stronger economy for the future, and fairness. In the statement, he announced that the economy is expected to grow by 0.9% this year, (a downgrade from the predicted 1.7%) whilst borrowing will continue to fall to £120bn in 2012-13. In the statement, Mr Osborne also announced the formation of a new cabinet committee on infrastructure to deal with planning and regulatory delays, addressing policy issues, as well as ensuring that the 40 infrastructure projects ‘critical to growth’ are delivered. In terms of waste and sustainable resource management, the Chancellor announced the launch of the National Infrastructure Plan, which will have £5bn associated with it.
