House of Commons
Speakers:
Tony Pedrotti - Director of Sustainable Development, BERR
Scott Butler - UK General Manager, European Recycling Platform
Khush Marolia - Board Member, British Battery Manufacturers Association
Bob Gordon - Head of Environment, British Retail Consortium
Chair:
Barry Sheerman MPThe Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009 came in to force on 5 May 2009 and marked a step-change in the UK's position regarding battery recycling, forcing manufacturers and retailers to collect, treat and recycle 25% of all batteries placed on the UK market by 2012, rising to 45% by 2016.
Held in partnership with the European Recycling Platform, this parliamentary seminar enabled members, parliamentarians and policy-makers to engage in serious debate regarding how the new rules will be implemented, with broad agreements reached on several key issues.
