Successful event on the German Manufacturing-Skills system hosted in parliament

27th October 2016

The APMG teamed up with the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Skills and Education to host a brilliantly informative event on the Manufacturing-Skills system in Germany.

The panel event, held in the Palace of Westminster, attracted a crowd across both the manufacturing and skills sectors eager to learn the lessons of the German system which is widely recognised as being a long-term success. Chaired by APMG vice-chair John Stevenson MP, the discussion ranged from the current issues facing the apprenticeship system in the UK, to the role of the German Chamber of Commerce, to the potential for a skills-gap to develop in light of the UK exiting the EU.

Speaking on the panel were:

  • Robert Bischof - Vice-President, German British Chamber of Industry & Commerce; Chairman, German British Forum
  • Christian Kiock - Chairman of the UK Regional Committee of the British Chambers of Commerce in Germany
  • Richard Bills - Director of the European College of Business Management
